Chapter 12

Logan was still watching Jared swim when he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. Raising his head, he looked over his shoulder and growled low. Whatever it was, Logan didn’t want company. He was enjoying his time lazing in the sun and gazing down at his mate in his other form. Jared was a sight to behold as a sea serpent. Whoever this intruder was, he needed to leave.

Two wolves walked out onto the rock. They both returned the growl, only this one was threatening. Logan stood up, facing the two animals. He could tell they were shifters. The question was, were they friendly?

“We won’t harm you as long as you aren’t trespassing.” The voice came from the trees. A second later, a man stood between the two wolves. Dark brown eyes, black hair, and tan skin gave the hint of American Indian heritage. “I’m Galvin. Beta to the local pack. Who are you?”

Having no other choice, Logan shifted. He just hoped Jared didn’t surface to see this. His mate would flip if he saw Logan standing naked before a group of three strangers. “The name’s Logan. I’m here with my mate.”

“Who is?” Galvin pressed.

“Jared Strand,” Logan answered firmly.

He wasn’t expecting the hostile growls from the two wolves or the glare that Galvin sent his way. “What is that bastard doing here?”

Logan snarled. What was up with people and becoming hostile instantly toward his mate? Had Jared really left such horrible impressions on these people? No, it wasn’t all bad. Erin and Bridget seemed found of his mate.

“He brought me here for healing.” Logan saw no reason to lie to these men. They obviously served as some kind of security for the lake and surrounding forests. Logan silently wondered why Jason hadn’t informed them about Jared and him staying here.

Galvin’s eyes raked over Logan’s body, causing the cougar to growl again. “You don’t look injured.”

“Not all wounds are on the surface,” Jared said, coming out of the trees.
